Borneo Sporenburg Bridge

West 8 are a Dutch urban design and landscape architecture firm. They played a major role in the entire development of the Borneo and Sporenburg islands in Amsterdam. This bridge is a counterpoint to the rigid geometry of the residences and with its bright color that complements the red and brown bricks that are commonly used on the islands. Its curving form is a complex welded frame that supports a wooden walking surface. It's intriguing how open the bridge feels. The steps have open risers and the large openings in the sides have lightly tensioned cables. You can get away with a lot more in regard to safety in the Netherlands. The treads and sloped wooden walking surfaces do have stainless strips that provide about 1/8" of grip and have a dimpled surface to prevent slipping.
The attachments that you can see on the top of the bridge are lights that shine on the walking surface. I have no idea why they are sculpted in the shape of birds heads.
